The Wesebach , also called Wese , is a 24.9 km long, southwest and orographically right tributary of the Eder in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .

geography

course

The Wesebach rises in the middle part of the Kellerwald . Its source lies on the western flank of the east of the village Löhlbach (northern part of the village of Haina ) located little Aschkoppe ( 606.8  m above sea level.  NHN ), a western foothills of the Great Aschkoppe . The federal road 253 passes around 650 m north of the origin, which is located at around 545  m above sea level on the holy meadows surrounded by forest .

The Wesebach initially flows in a west-southwest direction through the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park . Then it bends to the north-northwest and gradually runs through the Löhlbach, which is on the B 253. After crossing it, it flows in the direction of Landesstraße 3332 coming from Frankenau in the west and then along this street to Frebershausen , a district of Bad Wildungen . Below the village, where the southeast border of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park runs over the northwest slopes of the Bachtal , the stream turns to the northeast. In the meantime, he passes the national park and the Eder heights there (the area of which roughly coincides with that of the national park) and some mineral springs in the valley.

The Wesebach reaches the municipality of Edertal , where it continues to flow along the L 3332 through the districts of Gellershausen and Kleinern . The Spicke recreational facility is located on the stream, which is partly accompanied by the Wesetal nature trail (including a suspension bridge over the stream). The stream then reaches the Edertal district of Giflitz , where it crosses under the federal highway 485 and shortly afterwards flows a piece along the federal highway 3086 leading to Bergheim .

After leaving the Kellerwald and flowing through Giflitz, the Wesebach flows into the Wegaer Ederaue , where it joins the Fulda tributary Eder northwest of the southern Bergheim station at about 191  m above sea level . A few meters east below its confluence is the Eder Bridge of the disused Ederseebahn section ( Korbach - Bad Wildungen ) of the Wabern – Brilon Wald railway line . To the north of it and thus beyond the Eder is the main part of the Edertal district of Bergheim, and directly to the east below the bridge the Böhner Bach, coming from the north, flows into the Eder.

Natural allocation

The Wesebach rises in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland (No. 34) in the Mittelkellerwald (344.1) belonging to the main unit Kellerwald (344 ). After leaving this subunit, it runs a few kilometers near Löhlbach within the Frankenauer Flur (344.50) natural area belonging to the Niederkellerwald subunit (344.5), below the village roughly parallel to the border to the Mittelkellerwald and then through this subunit again. The stream then flows into the Wildunger Bergland (344.2) subunit above Frebershausen , where it remains through Gellershausen and Kleinern. A little below the latter village, the stream changes to the main unit of Ostwaldecker Randsenken (341), in which it runs within the subunit Wildunger Senke (341.5) to Giflitz through the natural area Wildehügelland (341.52). Ultimately, the stream flows into the Eder near Bergheim-Bahnhof in the Wegaer Ederaue (341.51) natural area, which belongs to the same subunit .

Catchment area, Rhine-Weser watershed and tributaries

The Wesebach is a body of water III. Order . Its catchment area is 63.433 km². It borders in the northwest, north, northeast, east and southeast via Lorfe ( Lorfebach ; Eder tributary), Banfebach (Edersee tributary), Keßbach (tributary of the Banfebach) and across the Wilde (Eder tributary) to the catchment area of the Eder , in which the Edersee and Affolderner See reservoirs are located. In the south it meets over the Urff (Schwalm tributary) that of the Schwalm (Eder tributary) and in the south and southwest over the Wohra and Schweinfebach (Wohra tributary) to that of the Ohm .

The headwaters of the Wesebach are on the Rhine-Weser watershed . While the water of the Wohra , which rises in the Kellerwald a few kilometers south of the Wesebach spring, flows through the Ohm and Lahn towards the south-west of the Rhine , that of the Wesebach flows through the Eder and Fulda towards the north-east of the Weser .

The tributaries of the Wesebach include with orographic allocation (l = left-hand side, r = right-hand side) , water length, mouth location with Wesebach kilometers and - if known - catchment area size in km² (viewed downstream, usually according to /):

Protected areas

The Wesebach flows - outside of all localities above Giflitz on the brook - in the bird sanctuary (VSG) Kellerwald (VSG no. 4920-401; 263.9949 km²). It runs in the upper reaches of the spring through the nature reserve (NSG) Bernertsgrund near Löhlbach ( CDDA no. 162393; designated 1984; 13.43  hectares ), which is classified as the fauna-flora-habitat area of the same name (FFH no. 4920-301; 13.54 ha). From the Wesemühle, which is far below Löhlbach, it flows southeast outside the FFH area Kellerwald (FFH no. 4819-301; 58.2261  km² ) and approximately from Gellershausen to its confluence through the FFH area Untere Eder (FFH no . 4822-304; 16.659 km²). Above Giflitz, the stream passes the FFH area Schrummbachsrain and Kalkrain near Giflitz (FFH no. 4820-308; 17.16 ha), the eastern part of which, below the Am Kalkrain housing estate , is known as the NSG Kalkrain near Giflitz (CDDA no. 163991; 1996; 6.47 ha). Wesetal educational trail

The Wesetal-Lehrweg is a history, culture, nature and water adventure trail in the Wesebachtal, which was inaugurated at the end of October 2004 after an 18-month planning phase and construction period. The path branches off from the Ederauenweg in the area where the Wesebach flows into the Eder and runs from Giflitz up through the Bachtal to Gellershausen - crossing the brook several times and passing through the Spicke and Kleinern leisure facilities .

It leads hikers and cyclists through traditions from ancient times into the past and through research into the present. At twelve stations with large and interesting display boards, you can find out about the Wesebach and its valley, the former iron industry and the local history, for example about amphibians , iron hammers , shepherds , wood vinegar , mineral springs and water mills .
