The Wohra in the Hessian districts of Waldeck-Frankenberg and Marburg-Biedenkopf is a northerly, orographically right and with about 33.8 km flow distance the longest tributary of the Ohm .

geography

course

The Wohra rises in the Kellerwald just under 1 km north-north-west of Battenhausen , an eastern district of Haina located away from the Wohra at the source of the Urff tributary Appenbach . Its source is 1.5 km north of the 656.7  m high Hohen Lohr and 1 km southeast of the Großer Keppelberg ( 490.1  m ) on the eastern slope of a 541.5  m high mountain.

In its upper course, which runs entirely in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park , the Wohra flows around its source mountain, initially in the form of a semicircle open to the south, in a counterclockwise direction, before finally leaving the Kellerwald in Haina in a south-westerly direction, passing the Elberode desert a little to the south.

The Wohra at Haina Monastery

From Haina the Wohra now moves exclusively in southerly directions, with the Wohratal roughly forming the border between the Burgwald in the west and the Kellerwald in the east.

From Gemünden , the Wohra valley no longer represents the eastern border of the Burgwald to the Kellerwald, but to the Gilserberger Heights , as the northern part of the Upper Hessian Threshold , which runs towards Vogelsberg , is also called. It flows through the communities of Wohratal and Rauschenberg .

North of the core town of Kirchhain , the 3.2 km long Mühlenwohra branches off to the left from the Wohra at Wohra km 3.1 , which flows through the village to the west of the center and - without flowing back into the Wohra - a little southwest of Kirchhain shortly before the federal road 62 at Ohm -km 12.65 reaches the Lahn- tributary Ohm, which flows there from about the southeast . The Wohra flows west below the Kirchhain town center and a little after Tangieren of the Erlensee and crossing under the B 62 at Ohm-km 11.5 into the Ohm coming from there from the east. The mouths of both waters - Wohra and Mühlenwohra - are located in the flood retention basin Kirchhain / Ohm .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Wohra covers around 285 km².

Natural spaces

All tributaries above the Schweinfe arise from the ( middle ) cellar forest ( natural area 344.1). The Schweinfe itself arises from the Kellerwald, but from the inflow of the stream that rises in the far northeast of the Burgwald it forms it from Römershausen (from right) and around this stream to the northwest the border between Burgwald and Kellerwald ( Buntstruth , natural area 345.4, becomes attributed to the Burgwald).

From the Schweinfe estuary, the Wohratal represents its own natural area (345.3, also Burgwald), which separates the “actual” Burgwald (345.1-345.2) in the west, from which all right tributaries come from now on, from the Gilserberger heights in the east which all left tributaries come from. The confluence of the Wadebach from the right finally marks the transition from the Northern Burgwald (345.1) to the Southern Burgwald (345.2), which is only partially wooded .

Mills

There are numerous mills along the Wohra .

  • Haina village mill
  • Hörlemühle
  • Schlascher mill
  • Cutting mill
  • Aumühle Gemünden
  • Struthmühle
  • Mill in the Ratz (near Wohra )

  2. a b On the data sheet ( memento from February 6, 2013 in the web archive archive.today ) 39.5 km are given, but the stationing points clearly end just above 33.8 km at the source.
  3. "Wohra-km" = difference between 33.84 km and the respective "kilometer stone" upstream
  4. For a better overview and sorting downstream, a hyphen is inserted for each river in the river code number (DGKZ) after the number "25828", which stands for the Wohra.
