Wohratal (natural area)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wohratal is a natural area in Hesse between Burgwald and Kellerwald or Gilserberger Heights , which is part of the Burgwald (main unit 345) adjoining to the west . It accompanies the Wohra river from its exit from the basement forest near Haina monastery to its confluence with the Ohm near Kirchhain .

In particular, only the river valley from Gemünden (Wohra) together with the side valleys downriver to the south is referred to as the Wohratal (345.3). In contrast, the valley above the Gemünden Wohra from convent Haina and its tributary is Schweinfe from Old Haina accompanied stained Truth called (345.4). The Buntstruth extends to the northwest as far as the immediate vicinity of the Rhine-Weser watershed and roughly follows the Schweinfe tributary Bach from Römershausen upstream to the eponymous town of Römershausen .

Natural structure

The valley basin is divided as follows:

  • 345.3 Wohratal (38.26 km², south)
  • 345.4 Buntstruth (22.98 km², north)

Location and limits

Stained Truth lies at an altitude of 340 m in the north to the south 260 meters above sea level . The “actual” Wohratal, which adjoins it to the south, follows the eponymous river up to a height of just over 200 m. The valley basin is practically completely free of forests, but is immediately surrounded by forests on both sides.

In the west the "actual" castle forest rises with just under, in the northwest also just over 400 m. The Gilserberger Heights in the south-east also reach 400 m in proximity to the two natural areas, while the Kellerwald in the north-eastern neighborhood of Buntstruth on Jeust reaches 585 m, and on the adjacent Hohen Lohr to the north it even reaches 657 m.

Rivers

All the mouths of the tributaries of the Wohra from the Ebersgraben are in the “actual” Wohratal - the most important ones would be the Schweinfe, which flows in Gemünden near the northern seam, and the Bentreff, which comes centrally from Rosenthal in the Burgwald .

The Buntstruth follows the upper reaches of the Wohra and the middle to lower reaches of the Schweinfe and its tributary Bach from Römershausen to the northwest to the Hauberner Hecke , the saddle between Burg- and Kellerwald on the Rhine-Weser watershed .

The state road 3073 coming from Frankenberg in the northwest runs through Buntstruth and Wohratal centrally, first on the brook of Römershausen, further over the lower reaches of the Schweinfe and from Gemünden finally along the lower reaches of the Wohra.

geology

While the Zechstein of the Buntstruth is a very clear dividing line between the red sandstone of the Burgwald forest adjoining it to the west and the slate of the Kellerwald forest in the east, the deeper Wohratal interrupts the red sandstone soils of the mountain ranges that adjoin it to the west and east ( Gilserberger heights ) by a loess-containing depression.
