The Jeust is 585  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Kellerwald in the north Hessian districts of Schwalm-Eder and Waldeck-Frankenberg .

The Jeust rises in the south of Kellerwald and the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park . It is located directly west of Schönstein , a part of the Gilserberg municipality located a little below this village and flowing into the Gilsa in the north . About 2.5 km north-northeast of the mountain is Dodenhausen , a part of the municipality of Haina to the north , with the desert garden ( 675.3  m ) on the other side of the stream as the highest Kellerwaldberg. Gemünden on the Wohra is about 5 km to the west-southwest . The municipality and city limits of Gilserberg, Gemünden and Haina collide on the hilltop. The Gilsa tributary Goldbach rises on the eastern flank of the mountain .

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the basalt summit of Jeust . The rock Schönstein ( ND ) is located near the summit . Parts of the Kellerwald bird sanctuary lie on the mountain (VSG no. 4920-401; 263.9949  km² ).

Natural allocation

The Jeust forms together with the north-east situated and mountain ridge Keller (with the desert garden) separated by the valley of the Gilsa tributary north in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland (no.34), in the main unit Kellerwald (344) and in the subunit Hoher Kellerwald (344.0) the natural area Jeust and Keller (344.00).

hike

The Kellerwaldsteig (156 km long hiking trail in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park) leads south and west around the Jeust in the section between the Gilserberg district of Schönau and the Schönsteiner district of Battenhausen . Branch paths lead to the mountain, on the summit of which there is an open refuge .
