The Wiedegge is 732.3  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Rothaargebirge and the highest elevation in the ridge between the Elpe to the west and the Neger and Ruhr to the east. It is located near Helmeringhausen in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

The Wiedegge rises within the Sauerland in the northern part of the Rothaargebirge. Belonging to the area of ​​the city of Olsberg , its summit lies east over the Elpe valley , west-south-west of the confluence of the Neger in the Ruhr and south over the valley of the Vossbach ( Vossbach ), in which the Olsberg district Helmeringhausen is 1.8 km from the summit . Other nearby towns are Wulmeringhausen, 2 km southeast (to Olsberg) and 2.4 km (as the crow flies ) to the west, Andreasberg (to Bestwig ).

Natural allocation

The Wiedegge belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge (333.8) to the natural area Ramsbecker ridge and gorges ( Ramsbecker heights ; 333.81). The landscape falls from west to north into the subunit Oberruhrgesenke (335.0), which is part of the main unit Sauerländer Senken (335).

Summits and foothills

The summit of the Wiedegge is 732.3  m above sea level; Near the summit, a 731.6  m high point is shown on topographic maps . The north-western branch of the mountain is the Ohlenkopf ( Ohlenberg ; 729.2  m ), to which a 698  m high mountain saddle leads, and its north-eastern branch is the Schmalenberg ( 714.2  m ), to which a little more than 670  m high saddle leads.

Protected areas

Southwest of the Wiedegegipfel lies the nature reserve (NSG) Wiedegge ( CDDA no. 329718; designated 2001; 2.49  hectares in size) and on the eastern flank of the wooded mountain the NSG Buchenwaldkomplex Schmalenberg (CDDA no. 329309; 2001; 72.54 hectares ). On the mountain are part of the protected landscape area Olsberg (CDDA No. 555554922;., 1984; 79.344  km² ).

Traffic and walking

To the west past the Wiedegge, the district road  16 ( Gevelinghausen - Elpe ) leads along the Elpe, to the east-northeast branches off the Neger estuary from the federal road 480 (Olsberg– Assinghausen ) to the Wulmeringhausen state road  742 and to the north runs along the Vossbach that of Bigge Link road leading to Helmeringhausen in the direction of the mountain. For example, starting at these roads you can hike on forest trails and paths to the mountain.
