Beech forest complex Schmalenberg nature reserve

The nature reserve Buchenwaldkomplex Schmalenberg with a size of 72.7  ha is located northwest of Wulmeringhausen in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan . The NSG is located on the eastern slope of the Wiedegge .

Area description

The NSG is a red beech forest with flat rocky areas and rivulets.

Protection purpose

The forest area in the NSG is to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
