Buchhorstkuppe nature reserve

The Buchhorstkuppe nature reserve with a size of 2.9  hectares is located east of Helmeringhausen in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the Buchhorst hilltop which is made up of beeches and oaks. On the north slope there is a cliff up to 15 m high with fern vegetation.

Protection purpose

The forest there is to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
