Bornstein nature reserve

The Bornstein nature reserve with a size of 0.5  ha is located between Brunskappel and Wiemeringhausen in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is the five meter high Bornstein rock on a hilltop with oak-birch coppice .

Protection purpose

The Bornstein rock is to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
