from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Olsberger Ruhrtal above Assinghausen with a size of 15.5  ha is located south of Assinghausen up to the border to Winterberg in Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan . The Ruhr in the NSG has also been part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Area (FFH) Ruhr (Natura 2000-Nr. DE-4614-303) in the European system of protected areas according to Natura 2000 since 2004. The NSG consists of three parts. The northernmost part of the area is between Assinghausen and Wiemeringhausen . The second sub-area lies between Wiemeringhausen and the valley crossing of the federal highway 480 at Haus Wildenstein. The third follows the valley crossing of the B 480 to the city limits. In the first two sub-areas, the B 480 is on the western NSG border and in the southernmost sub-area on the eastern border.

Area description

The NSG is the Ruhr River and parts of the floodplain .

Protection purpose

In the NSG the Ruhr and the floodplain are to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
