The nature reserve Rakenbachtal with a size of 38.8  ha is located south of Bruchhausen in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan . The NSG consists of two areas. The valley station of the “Auf dem Sternrodt” ski area or the summer toboggan run divides a smaller area in the Medebachtal from the main area.

Area description

The NSG is the headwaters of the Rakenbach and the stream with floodplain up to the confluence with the Medebach and parts of the Medebach valley . The near-natural low mountain range Rakenbach is bordered in places by narrow brook alder forests.

The landscape plan explains the NSG: “With its springs, spring rivulets and beech forests, the protected area has a representative inventory of the montane and high-montane level in NRW. The valley area continues to be an important connection and networking biotope of the Medebach valley. "

Protection purpose

In the NSG, the source area there and the stream are to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
