Ruhr Valley nature reserve between Olsberg and Assinghausen
The Ruhr Valley nature reserve between Olsberg and Assinghausen with a size of 48.4 hectares is located south of Olsberg to Assinghausen in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) in 2001 by the Arnsberg district government . In 2004, the area was again designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis with the Olsberg landscape plan. The Ruhr in the NSG since 2004 provides a partial area of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat area (FFH) Ruhr (Natura 2000 no. DE-4614-303) in the European system of protected areas to Natura 2000 represents.
Area description
The NSG is the Ruhr river and the floodplain .
Protection purpose
In the NSG the Ruhr and the floodplain are to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
