Nature reserve in the kingdom of heaven
The nature reserve Im Himmelreich with a size of 13.5 hectares is located east of Brunskappel in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan .
Area description
The NSG is a red beech forest with up to 3 m high rock ribs , springs and spring corridor. There is an old mine tunnel in the mountainside. In the lower valley area there is an oak forest. This is followed by a grassland area with an orchard, wet grassland and poor pasture.
Protection purpose
In the NSG, the forest and grassland area there is to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
