from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve slope forests of the Olsberg with a size of 168.9  ha is located south or southeast of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan . The NSG consists of three areas. Two sub-areas are on the western slope of the 715 m high Heidkopf ( location - sub-area north ; location - sub-area south ), while the third largest area is on the eastern slope of the 703 m high Olsberg ( location - sub-area east slope ).

Area description

The NSG is a wooded area with hornbeam and beech forests . Smaller areas with swamp forest, ravine forest, shady slope forests and also spruce areas and mixed beech and spruce forests belong to the NSG. The canyon forest stands consist of red beech and sycamore maple with a dense herbaceous layer dominated by silver leaf and young sycamore maple. The swamp forest is a fragment of broken forest in the east of the NSG that is drained and only wet, but seeped through in places as a spring. The tree layer consists of multi-stemmed alders. There are swamp springs and spring streams in the eastern area of the NSG. The brook system of the Luermecke runs in a canyon-like beech forest. Four rock complexes that rise up to 8 m with gorge forest are located in the north and south. Ferns and thick moss covers cover the ledges in places.

The NSG represents a biotope complex that is rich in species and structures, typical of the landscape and rare in this form and size.

Protection purpose

The forest area in the NSG is to be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
