Wildenstein nature reserve

The nature reserve Wildenstein with a size of 15  hectares is located southeast of Wiemeringhausen in the urban area of Olsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Olsberg landscape plan . The area of ​​the NSG has been part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Area (FFH) ravine forests north of Niedersfeld (Natura 2000 no. DE-4717-303) in the European system of protected areas according to Natura 2000 since 2004 .

Area description

The NSG is the west-exposed slope area with forest east of Wildenstein with up to 10 m high rocks and upstream block heaps. The forest is a Schatthang beech forest with linden and sycamore maple.

Protection purpose

The deciduous forest there is to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
