The Kahle Pön near Titmaringhausen with a peak in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia near the border with the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in North Hesse is 775.6  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Rothaargebirge .

geography

location

The Kahle Pön is located in the northeastern part of the Rothaargebirge. its summit rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park about 200 m southeast of the border between Westphalia and northern Hesse, which corresponds to the seam line between Sauerland and Upland . It is located 1.3 km north-northeast of the Westphalian Titmaringhausen (to Medebach ). Beyond and thus north of the border is the Diemelsee nature park with the Hessian Usseln (to Willingen ). The neighboring mountain to the west is called Auf'm Knoll , the Südostriedel Kalied .

The Diemel rises around 850 m (as the crow flies ) northwest of the summit of the Kahler Pön and the Neerdar originates on the eastern flank of the mountain, which is also the northern flank of the Kalied .

Natural allocation

The Kahle Pön was classified in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) as a southern part in the subunit Upland (333.9) to the natural area Inner Upland (333.90), but geomorphologically represents an extension of the natural area Langenberg (333.58) to the east, with which it has more in common because of its height and its location on the Eder - Diemel watershed, which extends here to the east . To the east-northeast it merges into the natural area of Vorderupländer Ridge (333.91); to the south it falls into the natural area Grafschafter Kammer (with Upländer Tor) (332.52), which belongs to the sub-unit Grafschafter Bergland (332.5) in the main unit Ostsauerländer Gebirgsrand (332) .

With a dominance of over 2.4 km and a prominence of 80.0 m, the Kahle Pön is one of the most independent after the Langenberg , at least on a par with the Hegekopf , Hillekopf , Hoher Pön and even before the Clemensberg and even more before the Ettelsberg Mountains of the Langenberg natural area, if one includes it. Within the Inner Upland natural area, it would be the highest mountain at a distance of 50 m in front of the Sähre located north on the other side of Usseln .

Watershed

Kahle Pön and Auf'm Knoll are on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . The Diemel, which rises on the northwest slope of the Kahler Pön, flows to the northeast and flows directly into the Weser . The water of the Wild Aa (called from middle reaches Aar) which is slightly further south-west on the eastern slope of Krutenbergs so that originates on the other side of the ridge and from there flows to the east, make a southern detour through the Orke , Eder and Fulda to Weser.

Protected areas

The summit region of the Kahler Pön is unforested and, in addition to fields, has a high heath . The Kahle Pön nature reserve near Usseln ( CDDA no. 163969; designated in 1987; 35  hectares in size) lies on the north Hessian north flank of the mountain and the Kahle Pön nature reserve (CDDA no. 318616; 2002; 95 ha) is on the south side of the Westphalian region . On the southern flank there are parts of the landscape protection areas Medebach (CDDA no. 555555156; 1983; 44.6114  km² ) and the north of Medebach: Düdinghauser Hochmulde, valleys and slopes (CDDA no. 555555160; 1983; 926.19 km²). The fauna-flora-habitat area Kahle Pön near Usseln (FFH No. 4718-302; 35.04 ha) is on the north flank , and the FFH area Kahle Pön (FFH No. 4717- 308; 97 ha) and parts of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (VSG no. 4717-401; 138.72 km²).

tourism

West-northwest below the Bald Pön and directly past the local Diemel source leads Uplandsteig . On the north slope, towards Usseln , there is a 750 m long bar tow lift . Located between 640 and 760 m high, it opens up a 700 m long ski slope . The 5.2 km long nature trail Kahle Pön runs on and on the mountain, with 12 stations also leading over the summit region. On the west shoulder of Kahle Pön, which faces the Auf'm Knoll mountain, there is the Graf-Stolberg-Hütte (approx.  704  m ) built directly north of the state border in 2014 , a mountain inn belonging to Usseln.

Individual evidence

  1. a b c Map services of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation ( information )
  2. Both the male and the female form are used. In topographical maps, “Kahle Pön” appears without an article and not - as is usual with masculine basic words - the adjective ending “-er”. In the cadastre of the Titmaringhausen district you can find the location names “Hoher Pön” and “Am Pön” and in Titmaringhausen the street “Am Kahlen Pön”. Further evidence of the male form can be found in: Friedrich Wilhelm Grimme, The Sauerland and its residents (1866) and Karl Kneebusch , Guide through the Sauerland (editions 1910 and 1950).
