The Hillekopf in the Rothaargebirge is 804.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain near Küstelberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Hillekopf is located in the northern part of the Rothaargebirge at the interface between the Sauerland and Upland . Its peak rises about 800 m south of the border with Hesse in the Küstelberg district and just under 2 km north of the village of Küstelberg, a west-north-western district of Medebach .

Neighboring mountains are the Hopperkopf ( 832.3  m , notch at 785.9 m) and the Jürgensköpken ( 759.7  m , notch at 733.0 m, 0.60 km dominance ) east-southeast of the Hillekopf . About 680 m east-southeast of the Hillekopf summit is in the forest area "Glindfeld" with 803  m (notch at 785.9 m) another eight hundred meter high hilltop, which is also called Hillekopf on the map (distances as the crow flies ).

The Hillebach rises at the Hillekopf , immediately to the east of its summit is a section of the Rothaarsteig , laid out in a north-south direction , which passes the Hillequelle not far from the mountain.

Natural allocation

The Hillekopf belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Langenberg (333.58). To the south, the landscape drops into the Harfeld (Winterberger Hochmulde) (333.56), and to the east-southeast it leads over the Jürgensköpken in the main unit of the East Sauerland mountain range (332) and in the sub-unit of Grafschafter Bergland (332.5) to the natural area Grafschafter Kammer (with Upländer Tor ) (332.52) above.

Watershed

The summit of the Hillekopf is located on the ridge of the Rhine-Weser watershed : While the Hillebach flows in a north-westerly direction into the Ruhr and this into the Rhine , the only short streams that arise on the eastern flank of the Hillekopf flow over the Wilde Aa ("Aar"), which rises a little further northeast, not far from Auf'm Knoll , to the east via Orke , Eder and Fulda into the Weser .
