Auf'm Knoll is 738.4  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Rothaar Mountains . It is located between Usseln and Titmaringhausen on the border between the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in North Hesse and the Hochsauerland district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Auf'm Knoll rises in the north-eastern part of the Rothaargebirge on the junction of the smoothly merging mountain regions Upland and Sauerland with the Diemelsee Nature Park (North Hesse) in the north and the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park (Westphalia) in the south. Its summit is 2.7 km southwest of Stryck and 2.4 km southeast of Usseln (districts of Willingen ) and 1.4 km northwest of Titmaringhausen (district of Medebach ).

Natural allocation

Auf'm Knoll belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Langenberg (333.58). The landscape leads east into the Inneres Upland (333.90) natural area, which is part of the Upland subunit (333.9), and to the southeast into the Grafschafter Kammer natural area (with Upländer Tor) (332.52), which in the main unit Ostsauerländer Gebirgsrand (332) to the subunit Grafschafter Bergland (332.5) belongs.

Mountain height

According to the trigonometric point on the summit - a few meters south of the Hessian-Westphalian border - Auf'm Knoll is 739.3  m high. In the vicinity of the peaks, the height information "739.1" in Westphalia and 738.4  m in North Hesse can be found on topographic maps .

Streams and watershed

Auf'm Knoll lies on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . The Diemel , which flows northeast and rises around 700 m (as the crow flies ) northeast of the summit, drains directly into the Weser . The Aarbach , the source of which is about 350 m northwest of the summit, flows into the Diemel tributary Itter, which runs a little west of the mountain . The water of the Wamecke , which rises around 980 m west-southwest of the summit, makes a southern detour through the Wilde Aa ( Aar ), which rises at the Krutenberg located a few kilometers further south-west and flows from there in an easterly direction, and then through the Orke , Eder and Fulda to the Weser.

Protected areas

On the Westphalian side, on the southern flank of Auf'm Knoll, there are parts of the Wamecke- Wilde Aar nature reserve (NSG) ( CDDA no. 319285; designated 2002; 66.25  hectares in size). As far as the eastern flank, those of the NSG Kahle Pön (NSG No. 318616; 2002; 95.77 ha), which is also known as the Fauna-Flora-Habitat- Area Kahle Pön (FFH No. 4717-308; 97 ha) is designated. Parts of the Medebach landscape protection area (CDDA no. 555555156; 1983; 44.6114  km² ) and the Medebacher Bucht bird sanctuary (VSG no. 4717-401; 138.72 ha) extend from the south to the summit region .
