The Hillebach , also known as Hille for short , is a 7.7 km long, southeastern and orographically right tributary of the Ruhr in the northeastern part of the Rothaargebirge . It flows in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

geography

course

The Hillebach rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park just under 1 km south of the border to the north-western part of Hesse and the local Upland . Its source is on the southeast flank of the 804.9  m high Hillekopf , which rises north of Küstelberg , a west-north-western district of Medebach . It is located in the Küstelberg district at about 692.5  m . To the east, above the source, the Rothaarsteig leads past a path at an altitude of 693.5  m .

The stream flows - according to near-swelling leaving the natural parks Sauerland Rothaargebirge - in a predominantly north-westerly direction. It passes - after the Schweimicke, which also flows from the Hillekopf, flows into it on the right - Hildfeld , a northern district of Winterberg , near the southern outskirts. Southwest of the village in the lower reaches joins Take That called Springebach one who from the south towards the town of Grönebach comes. Then the brook passes the approximately 837  m high Clemensberg , the highest and dominant mountain in the basin-shaped brook valley, and holiday homes on the lower part of its western flank.

Shortly thereafter, the Hillebach flows through the Hillestausee, located below the Rimberg ( 764.5  m ), near Niedersfeld , a northern district of Winterberg, a few hundred meters downstream - west of the village hall (Schützenhalle)  - at an altitude of about 519  m to the one coming there from the south Rhine- tributary river to flow into the Ruhr .

Natural allocation

The Hillebach rises in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) on the border of the natural areas Langenberg (333.58) in the east and Harfeld (333.56) in the West. Below Hildfeld, it changes from the Harfeld natural area to the Nordheller Höhen natural area (333.57).

Rhine-Weser watershed

The source area of the Hillebach lies on the Rhine-Weser watershed . While its water turns through the Ruhr towards the west towards the Rhine , that of the short streams that arise southeast of the Hillekopf strives towards the east through the Wilde Aa (called Aar in the lower reaches), Orke , Eder and Fulda to the Weser .

Hillebach and Ruhr in comparison

At its mouth, the Hillebach is richer in water and with a length of 7.7 km is 1000 m longer than the Ruhr up to this point. Its catchment area is 17,304 km² compared to (up to there) 13,718 km² the Ruhr a good quarter larger.

Protected areas

The Hillebach rises in the landscape protection area (LSG) Medebach ( CDDA no. 555555156; designated 1983; 44.6114  km² in size). A few hundred meters below its source, it changes over to the LSG part of the city of Winterberg (CDDA no. 555555153; 1983; 75.2111 km²) and from then on flows a little along the border to the first-mentioned LSG. At the same time, the stream reaches the Wiesen fauna-flora-habitat area in the Springebach and Hillebach valleys near Niedersfeld (FFH no. 4717-304; 1.16 km²). It also enters the Hillebachtal nature reserve (CDDA no. 389780; 2006; 50.45  ha ). After passing the village of Hildfeld , the stream flows through the nature reserve Irrgeister (CDDA no. 389797; 2006; 38.57 ha).

With the exception of a few small red spruce areas, the Hillebach is surrounded by grassland that is mostly grazed by cattle .
