The Hillestausee (also called Hillesee , Hillebachsee or Hillebachstausee ) near Niedersfeld in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is an 8.5 hectare reservoir in the Rothaar Mountains . As a swimming lake, it is used for recreational purposes. Its dam, completed in 1979, is the 250 meter long Hillebach reservoir in Niedersfeld . The city of Winterberg is the operator of the dam .

The Hillestausee is located in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge almost 3 km southwest of the border from Westphalia to the northwest part of North Hesse with the upland there . Around 6.5 km (each as the crow flies ) north of the Winterberg core town, it spreads near its riverside village of Niedersfeld (to Winterberg) north of the Rimberg ( 764.5  m above sea  level ). The jammed watercourses is 7.7 km long Hillebachstausee ( Hille ), the 0.7  Bach kilometers below the east of the cross Berg ( 578.6  m ; the NordNordWest Streamers Rimberg) located dam in Niedernfeld in the Ruhr opens.

Natural allocation

The Hillestausee belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Nordheller Heights (333.57).

Reservoir

When the water is completely blocked, the Hillestausees lake is 8.5 ha (0.085 km²) in size. The target is at a height of 544.5  m ; 544.7  m is also mentioned as the altitude of the reservoir . The reservoir has a maximum depth of 12 m. It is 0.46 km long in the southeast-northwest direction, a maximum of 0.26 km wide in the southwest-northeast direction and has a bank length of 1.05 km. Its storage space is 0.365 million m³.

dam

The dam, called Hillebachtalsperre Niedersfeld , is an earthfill dam built from 1978 to 1979 . It is 15 m high above the foundation level and 13.4 m above the river bed. Its building volume is 112,000 m³, the crown length 250 m. The flood flow of the overflow funnel can discharge a maximum of 34.2 m³ / s.

Transport, hiking and leisure

To the east, past the Hillestausee, the state road  872, called Grönebacher Straße there, leads from Grönebach to Niedersfeld and meets the federal road 480 there . The reservoir can be hiked around on a 1.6 km long circular path. There is a car park on the L 872 and a mini golf course near its east bank . A water ski facility is set up on the lake .
