geography

course

The Springebach rises in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park , in which it flows completely, between the Medebach district of Küstelberg in the east and the Winterberg district of Grönebach in the north-west, located on the brook. Its source is on the saddle between 693.1  m above sea level. NHN high hall in the north-northeast and the 721.4  m high Böhl in the west-southwest at about 638  m height.

Initially, the stream flows to the northwest, following state road  872. After about 1000 m of flow, it turns to the west - when you pass the 681.5  m high Egge. On the western outskirts of Grönebach, the 1.5 km long Westernau , which ultimately comes from the south-southwest from the Westernau nature reserve , flows to it. From here on the brook is called Gröne . This flows through the village of Grönebach in a north-northwest direction.

Then the Gröne flows west of the knitting mill in the north of the Grönebach district at an altitude of about 568  m into the Hillebach Rur tributary coming from the east ; about 370 m northeast of its mouth is the outskirts of the Winterberg district of Hildfeld, away from the Gröne and north of Hillebach . There is a height difference of 70 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 19.4 ‰.

Catchment area and tributaries

The Springebach drains a 4.869 km² catchment area through Hillebach, Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea . Its largest tributary is the left-hand Westernau, which is 1.6 km long.

Protected areas

The Springebach flows through several protected areas outside the village of Grönebach. It rises in the Wagenschmier swamp in the southeastern part of the nature reserve (NSG) Springebachtal (Winterberg) ( CDDA no. 389906; designated in 2006; 17.88  hectares in size); The NSG Springebachtal (Medebach) (CDDA no. 319131; 2002; 0.21 ha) is directly connected to this protected area a little above the source . This swamp consists of fallow wet grassland, gray willow bushes and Kleinseggenried. After the headwaters there is an approximately 1000 m long stream section that does not permanently carry water. This section is protected as a landscape protection area (LSG) type C (meadow valleys, significant extensive grassland ), here a part of the multi-part LSG Hillebach inflow and grassland complex near Hildfeld (CDDA no. 378654; 2005; 48.6 ha). This is followed by the northwest part of the NSG Springebachtal . This area is in the FFH area Wiesen in the Springebach and Hillebach valleys near Niedersfeld (FFH no. 4717-304; 1.1545  km² ), in which many rare plants and animals on the Red List occur. After the location of Grönebach, the stream, now called Gröne, is located up to the confluence with the Hillebach in the NSG Irrgeister (CDDA No. 389797; 2006; 38.57 ha), which is also part of the aforementioned FFH area. The last meters above the mouth are on the edge of the aforementioned LSG.

Flora and fauna

In the nature reserves Springebachtal and Irrgeister there are valuable and species-rich wet and wet meadows . In the meantime, the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation has purchased larger areas in the NSG Springebachtal and Irrgeister at the request of the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis . These areas are cultivated extensively according to the specifications of the culture-landscape-maintenance program of the Hochsauerlandkreis.

The common snipe , which occurred until the beginning of the 1990s, no longer lives in the Springebach valley, where whinchat and meadow pipit occur.
