Wildlife Sanctuary
The nature reserve Irrgeister is a 38.6 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the urban area of Winterberg between Niedersfeld and Grönebach . The area was designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . The NSG is part of the Wiesen FFH area in the Springebach and Hillebach valleys near Niedersfeld (DE 4717-304).
The name Irrgeister probably comes from the vernacular. It comes from the fog that often rises from the wet meadows in Hillegrund.
Habitats
The NSG includes the course of the Hillebach and the grassland in the valley. The grassland is mostly grazed with cattle .
Conservation activities
Since 2003, the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation has bought 7.71 hectares in the NSG for nature conservation purposes at the request of the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis .
