The nature reserve Günninghauser Mark is a 227 hectare nature reserve (NSG) south of Winterberg . In 2008 the area was designated as an NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Winterberg landscape plan . Before 2008, two sub-areas were designated as the Schluchtwald Angstbecke nature reserve and the Kapper Trolliuswiese nature reserve. The NSG is part of the fauna-flora-habitat area Schluchtwald Angstbecke and Günninghauser Mark (DE-4817-302). In the NSG are the peaks of the Bärenberg (Winterberg) with 743 m and des Wetzstein (Winterberg) with 771 m.

description

The NSG includes the local beech forest , there is also gorge forest and Schatthangwald. In the valley of the Sonneborn and in the area south of the cap there are areas with grassland . This grassland, made up of seeping wet meadows and species-rich poor grassland, has fallen fallow or is extensively grazed with cattle.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species for the maintenance and development of a forest and grassland areas. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
