The nature reserve Schluchtwald Helle is a 58.05 hectare nature reserve (NSG) east of Winterberg . In 2008 the area was designated as an NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Winterberg landscape plan . The nature reserve is also designated as an FFH area Schluchtwald Helle bei Winterberg .

The NSG includes the source area of ​​the Helle , the natural source stream and the surrounding canyon forest .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of a forest and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
