The nature reserve Unteres Helletal is a 34.2 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the urban area of Winterberg west of Elkeringhausen . In 2008 the area was designated as an NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Winterberg landscape plan . As early as 1992, the area of ​​today's NSG was designated as a nature reserve in the soil by ordinance . The NSG also belongs to the FFH area of ​​the Glindfeld-Orketal forest reserve .

Habitats

The NSG includes species-rich grassland in the lower Helle valley and some forest areas.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the conservation and development of the grassland valley and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
