The Upper Schweimecketal nature reserve is a 10.99 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northeast of Hildfeld in the city of Winterberg . In 2008 the area was designated as an NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Winterberg landscape plan .

description

The NSG includes the upper Schweimecketal . The source of the Schweimecke is just outside the NSG. The upper part of the NSG is covered with a beech forest. The rest of the NSG is covered with grassland. The grassland is partly used more intensively and partly poor pastures and wet grassland with spring swamps. Cotton grass and larger orchids are found in wet grassland. The grassland is grazed with cattle .

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect forests and grassland with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
