Brandtenberg nature reserve

The Brandtenberg nature reserve is a 7.47 hectare nature reserve (NSG) west of Altastenberg in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . The NSG belongs to the FFH area Bergwiesen bei Winterberg .

The NSG consists of forest. In addition to the beech forest, there are also smaller red spruce stands in the forest .

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species for the maintenance and development of a forest and grassland areas. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
