The Steinberg an der Renau nature reserve is a 42.6 hectare nature reserve south of Silbach in the city of Winterberg . In 2008 the area was designated as an NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Winterberg landscape plan . Overall, the nature reserve belongs to the much larger FFH area of Hunau, Upper Negertal, Renautal and Steinberg .

Area description

In the nature reserve, there is a striking rock-forest habitat complex with a wood-rush - beech forest . In the area is the mountain peak of the Steinberg at 728 m.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the maintenance and development of a beech forest and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
