The nature reserve Upper Lennetal with a size of 6.33 hectares is located west of Lenneplätze in the urban area of Winterberg in the Lennetal . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . The two parts of the Upper Lennetal nature reserve of the same name in the Schmallenberg urban area connect to the southwest and northeast .

Area description

It is a low mountain range with a brook and surrounding grassland.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the near-natural low mountain range Lenne with the floodplain in this area.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

Protective measures

According to the landscape plan, the red spruce stands in the floodplain should be cleared and turned back into grassland.
