The Molbecke nature reserve is a 2.32 hectare nature reserve (NSG) south of Winterberg . The area was designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan .

Area description

The NSG is a mountain meadow with a structure and species-rich biotope complex with broom bushes, groups of trees, species-rich poor grassland and small-scale wet grassland. The NSG is located between the 720 m high Molbecke mountain top and the Molbecke-Siepen valley cut. In the south, the area is divided by a spring trickle that flows into the Molbecke shortly afterwards. Both the lean and the moist grassland areas are home to a rich spectrum of plant species, some of which are included in the Red List of Endangered Species because of their endangerment . The area also falls almost entirely under the statutory biotope protection . Only a spruce reforestation separates the NSG from a part of the Bergwiesen nature reserve near Winterberg located 150 m to the east .

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the structure and species-rich biotope complex of lean and wet grassland. The NSG should lead to the abandoned site in order to safeguard the traditional use of grassland. For this purpose, contract offers for the maintenance of this biotope mosaic are to be made to the manager.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
