Nature reserve Der Stein
The nature reserve Der Stein is a 38.34 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northwest of Niedersfeld in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan .

The NSG consists of forest and grassland areas. In addition to the beech forest, there are also gorge forest areas in the forest . The grassland is mostly grazed with cattle . In addition to wet and damp grassland, there are poor pastures in the NSG.
Protection purpose
The nature reserve was designated for the maintenance and development of a forest and grassland as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
