Jean Gaudin (Jesuit)
Jean Gaudin (* 1617 in Poitiers , † June 19, 1681 in Tulle ) was a French Jesuit, classical philologist, Romanist and lexicographer.
life and work
Gaudin entered the Jesuit order in 1633 and became prefect and Latin teacher at the Jesuit college in Limoges (today Lycée Gay-Lussac). From 1664 he published several French-Latin and Latin-French dictionaries (some with Greek too), which were printed until 1732 and which also served as such until the appearance of the first monolingual French dictionaries (1680, 1690, 1694).
