The valley of the Neerdar near Usseln

The Neerdar is a 14.6 km long, northwest and orographically left tributary of the Wild Aa (Aar) in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge . It flows in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis and in the Hessian district Waldeck-Frankenberg ( Germany ).

course

The Neerdar rises in the Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis at the interface between the mountain regions Rothaargebirge , Sauerland and Upland, which flow into one another . Its source is about 300 m south of the border with the north-western part of northern Hesse with the Waldeck-Frankenberg district on the eastern slope of the Kahlen Pön or on the northern slope of the Kalied  - west above Düdinghausen (north-northwestern district of Medebach ).

Initially, the Neerdar flows in a north-easterly direction, and after just a few hundred meters it runs south-south-east of Usseln (eastern district of Willingen ) over a length of around 1.2 km, now and then across the border with Hesse.

After crossing the border, the Neerdar flows in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg - passing Usseln to the east but not flowing through - through Neerdar and Bömighausen (both eastern districts of Willingen) and runs along the federal road 251 towards the east. Then the brook - leaving the B 251 - bends to the south and absorbs the water of the Rhena flowing in from the northeast .

Running in this direction, after flowing through Alleringhausen (western district of Korbach ) , the Neerdar flows into the Orke tributary Wilde Aa (Aar), which comes from there approximately from the southwest . A few meters north of this, Kreisstraße  60 branches off from Landesstraße  3437, which leads from Alleringhausen to L 3083 ( Lengefeld - Eppe ) at the Walmenmühle near Eppe, to Nieder-Schleidern .

Watershed

The headwaters of the Neerdar - at Kahle Pön and Kalied  - are located on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . While the water of the Neerdar, which flows mainly in an easterly direction, makes a southerly detour through the Wilde Aa (Aar) , Eder and Fulda to the Weser , that of the Diemel, which rises a little further west on the Kahler Pön and flows to the northeast, reaches the Weser directly to the northeast .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Neerdar is 37.341  km² ; an area of 37,308 km² is also mentioned. Its tributaries include, with orographic allocation (l = left-hand side; r = right-hand side), length in kilometers, and the source and estuary area (viewed downstream):

  • Mospelbach (l; 1.6 km; rising north of the Mospel mountain, flowing below Neerdar )
  • Schulzbach (r; 1.9 km; rising east of Grotenberg, flowing below Bömighausen )
  • Rhena (l; 6.2 km; arising southwest of the mountain "Hohen Rade", flowing below Bömighausen )
