geography

location

The Kalied lies in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge. Its summit rises within the Hochsauerlandkreis in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park about 600 m south of the border between Westphalia and North Hesse, which corresponds to the seam line between Sauerland and Upland , and just south-east of the Kahler Pön , the east- south- east of which is the Kalied. It is located 1.5 km northeast of Titmaringhausen and just as far west of Düdinghausen , two districts of the Westphalian Medebach . Beyond and thus north of the border, in the Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, next to the northern foothills of the Kalied, there is the Diemelsee nature park with the Willingen district of Usseln .

On the predominantly wooded Kalied there is a refuge (near the summit) and a transmission tower (approx. 100 m east of the summit; approx.  735  m ). On its northern slope, which in the eastern slope of the Pön Bald passes, arises as a tributary of the Wild Aa the Neerdar .

Natural allocation

The Kalied belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Upland (333.9) to the natural area Inneres Upland (333.90). To the southeast and south, its landscape falls into the natural area Grafschafter Kammer (with Upländer Tor) (332.52), which belongs to the subunit Grafschafter Bergland (332.5) in the main unit Ostsauerländer Gebirgsrand (332) .

Watershed

Kalied and Kahle Pön are on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed . While the Diemel, flowing to the northeast, which rises a little further west-northwest near Auf'm Knoll , drains directly into the Weser , the Wilde Aa (also called Aar from the middle course ), which rises a little further west-southwest on the east slope of the Krutenberg and from there flows to the east, a more southerly detour through the Orke , Eder and Fulda to the Weser. The Neerdar , which swells on the north flank of the Kalied and mainly flows eastwards, makes a more southerly detour through the Wilde Aa , Eder and Fulda to the Weser. The Prisebecke, for example, which rises east of the summit and flows through Düdinghausen, also drains through the latter .

Protected areas

The southwest flank of the Kalied falls into the 35 hectare nature reserve Kahle Pön near Usseln (NSG no. 163969), founded in 1987, and the eastern flank into the 18 hectare large NSG Brüche-Talung (NSG no. 318247), founded in 2002 .
