U-18 European Football Championship 1997
The 13th U-18 European Football Championship was held in Iceland from July 24 to 31, 1997 . France defended their title by beating Portugal 1-0 after a golden goal . Like Austria, Germany could not qualify, and Switzerland was eliminated after the preliminary round.

The eight qualified teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays each other once. The two group winners reach the final while the runners-up play for third place.
