U-21 European Football Championship 1994 / qualification
In qualifying for the U-21 European Football Championship in 1994 , 32 national teams took part - the originally registered team from Yugoslavia did not participate for political reasons - and determined the participants for the final round, which took place from April 15 to 20 1994 was held in France .
The qualifying games in the six qualifying groups started on April 21, 1992 and ended on December 14, 1993. The quarter-finals were played between March 8 and 23, 1994.
Germany , Austria and Switzerland have already failed to qualify.
mode
The 33 national teams were drawn into six groups - three groups of five and three groups of six teams. The national selections had to play their encounters with two legs. The respective group winners (marked yellow) and the two best runners-up (green) qualified for the quarter-finals. These then determined the four participants in the final round in the first and second leg.

Performance of the German-speaking teams
Germany
Qualification group 3 was somewhat disappointing for Germany. The second place behind Spain was certainly honorable, but the three defeats ultimately also cost the chance to advance to the quarter-finals as one of the two best runner-ups. In addition to the two games against Spain (1: 2 at home and 1: 3 away), the home game against Denmark was lost 0: 1.
Austria
With France, Sweden and Bulgaria, Austria was drawn in qualifying group 6 overpowering opponents. That it was only enough to finish last among the six teams was still a disappointment. A single win (2-0 at home against Bulgaria) and two draws (1-1 in Sweden and 2-2 at home against Finland) were matched by seven defeats.
Switzerland
Switzerland performed very honorably in qualification group 1. In the final accounts it was enough with three wins and two draws, with three defeats, at least third place behind group winners Italy and Portugal. Scotland could be relegated to fourth place.
