1998 European Under-18 Football Championship
The 14th U-18 European Football Championship was held in Cyprus from 19 to 26 July 1998 . Ireland won the tournament with a 4-3 win on penalties over Germany . Defending champion France , like Austria and Switzerland, could not qualify.

The eight qualified teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays each other once. The two group winners reach the final while the runners-up play for third place. In addition to the semi-finalists, the third group qualify for the 1999 Junior World Cup .
