Fabian Ernst (born May 30, 1979 in Hanover ) is a former German soccer player . Since January 2019 he is co-owner of the Danish second division club Næstved BK .
Career
In the club
Ernst started playing club football at Hannover 96 in 1983 at the age of four . He went through all of the club's youth teams and several national youth teams and in 1996, at the age of 17, got his first professional contract with Lower Saxony, where he became a regular player in the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons. In 1998 he moved to Hamburger SV , which he left again in 2000 and went to Werder Bremen . After winning the championship and the DFB Cup in 2004, he moved to league rivals FC Schalke 04 in 2005 , with whom he won the league cup in the same year . In winter 2009 he moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul in Turkey at the end of the transfer period . With the traditional club, Ernst won the Turkish Cup in the same season with a 4-2 win in the final over local rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul and the Turkish championship.
In summer 2012, he terminated his contract, which ran until summer 2014, by mutual agreement with Beşiktaş. Just a few days after this contract termination, he moved to the Süper Lig promoted Kasımpaşa Istanbul . On June 18, 2013, the association declared that the contract, which originally ran until 2014, had been terminated by mutual agreement. Ernst ended his career as a professional football player. In summer 2014 he joined the OSV Hannover as an amateur in the Landesliga Hannover . There he finally ended his career as a player in the summer of 2015 and is now playing for the old men of Hannover 96.
National team
Fabian Ernst was a German national player , has played 24 international matches and scored one goal. He was nominated in May 2002 as a "substitute player" for two preparatory games for the national team for the 2002 World Cup . He played his first international game a short time later on May 9, 2002 in Freiburg im Breisgau in a 7-0 win against Kuwait . After the game against Wales, in which he was denied a use, he and the other "substitutes" were again - as planned - removed from the squad. He was never represented in the provisional World Cup squad. With the national team, Ernst took part in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal , where he was only able to book a brief appearance in the first group game against the Netherlands . Surprisingly, he was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup at the last minute.
Ernst also played in the 2006 team, which he, like all youth national teams (he went through each one), was captain on the field. In 1998 he was vice European champion with the U-18, he is the record holder of the U-21 with 31 games.
In 2007, Ernst announced that he would no longer play for the national team under Löw.
Others
Ernst has had a close friendship for years with his former teammate Gerald Asamoah , who, like Ernst, played in the youth of Hannover 96 and even went to the same secondary school class before Ernst switched to the Wilhelm-Raabe-Schule and then to the Humboldtschule Hannover . They met more often in the national team and from 2005 to January 2009 they played together at FC Schalke 04 .
Næstved BK
Since January 2019, Ernst and Alex Quaye , also a former Bundesliga player, have owned the Danish second division club Næstved BK .
