Ulrich Mehlhart

Ulrich Mehlhart (* 1955 in Wiesbaden ) is a German clarinetist .

Career

From 1983 to 2016 Ulrich Mehlhart was principal clarinetist of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra / RSO Frankfurt of the Hessischer Rundfunk on ARD.

Since 2007 he has been teaching clarinet, chamber music and orchestra at the University of Music Würzburg

Ulrich Mehlhart first studied physics and meteorology at the University of Bonn, later school music and geography at the Musikhochschule and University of Frankfurt. (Clarinet with Udo Schmidt). He completed his studies as a DAAD scholarship holder from 1980 to 1983 at the Music Academy of the City of Basel in the soloist class of the Swiss clarinetist Hans-Rudolf Stalder .

Ulrich Mehlhart was a soloist of the RSO Frankfurt and other orchestras a. a. with the clarinet concertos by Mozart, Weber, Hindemith, Nielsen, Copland and Henze. In addition to his work in the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, he has been playing chamber music as a member of the mutare ensemble for almost 30 years . Dozens of radio productions and countless concerts prove the quality of this collaboration. His repertoire includes the most important chamber music works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Schönberg, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Henze, Stockhausen and the most recent contemporary compositions.

Ulrich Mehlhart taught from 1989 to 2000 at the Music Department of the University of Mainz and at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz.

Ulrich Mehlhart has been a lecturer at the University of Music in Würzburg since 2007

He also gives master classes as well as clarinet and chamber music courses for amateur musicians as well as for various institutions and universities in Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

From 1998 to 2010 he was "National Chairman" for Germany of the ICA (International Clarinet Association, USA) . From 2002 to 2010 he was a founding member and first chairman of the “German Clarinet Society”.

Ulrich Mehlhart is married to the Swiss violist Katrin Mehlhart, has three grown children and lives in Oberursel / Taunus.
