1994 European Under-16 Football Championship

The 12th U-16 European Football Championship was held in Ireland from April 26 to May 8, 1994 . It was the first UEFA tournament in Ireland. Winner was Turkey with a 1: 0 victory over Denmark . Germany finished third in the group and was eliminated after the preliminary round. Defending champion Poland , like last year's opponent Italy, could not qualify.

The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team played each other once. For the first time, three points were awarded for a win, and one point was still awarded for a draw. The group winners and runners-up reached the quarter-finals. From there on, the knockout system continued.

Preliminary round

Group A

Belarus and Austria finished the preliminary round with the same number of points and goals. The direct comparison was also a draw. Therefore, a penalty shootout was scheduled for the first place in the group, which Belarus won.
