Markus Hameter (born April 11, 1980 in Tulln ) is an Austrian football referee . He is a member of the Lower Austrian Football Association and belongs to the Lower Austrian Referees Committee, Wienerwald Group.

Career as a football referee

At the age of 16, Hameter passed the referee examination. For reasons of age, it was initially only used in the junior division. After he took a short break because of the high school diploma , he was called upon to lead games of combat teams when he reached the age of 18. But then Hameter started an impressive career. In 2003, within just five years, he was promoted from the fifth level to the Lower Austrian regional league . But that was not the end of the steep ascent, because in 2004 he was not only promoted to the Regionalliga Ost , where he directed his first game on August 6, 2004 with the encounter between SV Rohrbach and PSV Team for Vienna (1: 4), but was also included in the roster of assistant referees in the Bundesliga .

Then it took until the spring of 2008 before he received two auditions for inclusion in the squad of Bundesliga referees for the first division . After successfully completing the games SV Bad Aussee against FK Austria Wien  II (1: 4) on April 25, 2008 in the first division and the game 1. FC Vöcklabruck against Wolfsberger AC (0: 0) on April 29, 2008 in the Regionalliga Mitte he was upgraded to the second highest league in the summer. His first official appearance was on July 18, 2008 in the game between FC Gratkorn and SC Austria Lustenau (2-0).

After only one year and only twelve games in the first division, he was added to the referee squad for the Bundesliga in summer 2009. There he made his debut on September 26, 2009 in the game SK Austria Kärnten against FC Red Bull Salzburg (1: 2).

That was not the end of Hameter's career ladder. After successfully leading the match between Servette FC and BSC Young Boys (1-0) in the Swiss Super League on November 6, 2011 as part of the referee exchange , he was added to the list of FIFA referees on January 1, 2012. He made his debut as part of the qualification for the U-17 European Championship 2012 in Georgia , where he played England against Ukraine (1-0, March 26, 2012) and Georgia against Ukraine (1-0, March 31, 2012) was allowed to direct two games.

Hameter received a special award on May 20, 2012 when he was nominated as fourth official in the final of the ÖFB Cup between FC Red Bull Salzburg against SV Ried (3; 0) . This was Thomas Einwaller's farewell game , who ended his active career after eleven years.

On June 8, 2012, Hameter had his first game abandonment. In the barrage game for the Erste Liga TSV Hartberg against the Grazer AK , the angry hooligans stormed the field immediately after the hit 3-0 for Hartberg as a protest against their own team, whereupon a continuation of the game was no longer possible. A fine of 20,000 euros and two games with exclusion of the audience were imposed on the Grazer AK.

At the ÖFB Cup game LASK - Rapid on April 3, 2019, Hameter only showed the LASK player Michorl yellow after a serious assault, and the criticizing Rapid player Hofmann ultimately red. After these and other controversial decisions, the referee committee of the ÖFB Hameter did not make a decision for the time being to use more.
