Life

After school, Schüttengruber learned the profession of electrical installer. Because he was interested in refereeing early on, he had a short career as a football player; from 1994 to 1997 he played in the youth teams of ESV Westbahn Linz; This was mainly because he was burdened by his father Manfred Schüttengruber , who himself was an international referee. With a special permit, Manuel Schüttengruber passed the soccer referee exam on April 1, 1997 at the age of less than 14 and then devoted himself entirely to refereeing. As the youngest referee in Austria, he was the first game in his career to lead the U-12 game between SK St.Magdalena and SV Chemie Linz. In addition to his father, the former Swedish FIFA referee Anders Frisk is one of his sporting role models.

Due to his age, he was only used in youth games for the time being. Only after reaching the age of 17 was he allowed to lead matches of combat teams. After his debut in the adult field in the spring of 2001, Manuel Schüttengruber achieved a rapid rise. In autumn 2001 he was allowed to lead games in the first class, in spring 2002 games in the district leagues and from summer 2003 games in the second regional league. On August 27, 2004 Schüttengruber came in the match UVB Vöcklamarkt against ATSV Ranshofen (2-0) to his first game in the Upper Austrian regional league . A year later he came thanks to his performances in the Regionalliga Mitte to use, where he made his debut on August 6, 2005 in the game SAK Klagenfurt against ASK Köflach (0: 5). Another year later Schüttengruber was nominated as assistant referee for the Bundesliga. He came on August 11, 2006 at the side of referee Andreas Rothmann in the game DSV Leoben against SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 (2-0) for the first time as assistant referee in the first division. On April 7, 2007 he had his first appearance as assistant referee in the Austrian Bundesliga on the side of Dietmar Drabek in the game FC Wacker Innsbruck against SK Rapid Wien (2: 3).

On June 15, 2008 Manuel Schüttengruber was added to the talent squad for the Austrian Bundesliga. As a result, he played five qualifying games in the Regionalliga Ost (on April 7, 2009, SV Horn against SC-ESV Parndorf , 2-0), in the Regionalliga Mitte (on August 30, 2009, Grazer AK against SAK Klagenfurt , 2-0 , on September 10, 2009, SK St. Andrä against TSV Hartberg , 2: 0, on March 28, 2009, Grazer AK against SK Sturm Graz II , 2: 2) and the Regionalliga West (on May 16, 2009, FC Dornbirn against FC Kufstein , 2: 1) used. After he had performed well in all five games, he was added to the squad list of the Austrian Bundesliga on July 1, 2009 , where he initially heads games in the first division , the second highest division. Manuel Schüttengruber made his debut in the First League on July 14, 2009 when FC Gratkorn played against First Vienna FC (1-1). A special feature was his second game management on July 31, 2009 in the first division, when he was assisted by his brother Clemens Schüttengruber at the meeting between TSV Hartberg and SKN St. Pölten (0: 1) .

Already earlier, on May 17th, 2009, Manuel Schüttengruber at the age of 25, together with Gerald Lehner, was awarded Upper Austria's best and most popular referee in the regional and Upper Austrian league at the Casineum in Linz.

In this game he also showed his first yellow-red card when he sent Rabiu Afolabi off the pitch five minutes before the end of the game for criticizing after a previous foul.

On January 1, 2014, Manuel Schüttengruber was appointed FIFA referee by the ÖFB. Thus, after 47 games in the highest league and 36 games in the second highest league, he received this coveted status.

Internationally, Manuel Schüttengruber came on July 8, 2006 for the first time in the friendly game Spartak Trnava against Heart of Midlothian (2: 3) as assistant referee . The first competition game as an assistant followed on December 4, 2006 in the UEFA Cup in the game SC Heerenveen against Sporting Braga (1: 2).

He has a son (Laurenz, * 2006) and has been married to a former model from Bosnia since June 2020. In addition to the family and refereeing, sport is generally the focus of Schüttengruber's life. From May 2009 to July 2010 he worked as a columnist for the soccer internet portal Newsarena . Manuel Schüttengruber works full-time at the fairdrive driving school as a site manager in Leonding and as a hypnosis and mental trainer in his company MotivationX .
