Marvin Job Matip (born September 25, 1985 in Bochum ) is a former German - Cameroonian soccer player who was most recently under contract with FC Ingolstadt 04 and played three times for the Cameroon national soccer team. His younger brother Joel , like his cousins Joseph-Désiré Job and Thomas Job , is also a professional football player.
Career
societies
Matip, whose father comes from Cameroon and whose mother comes from Germany, learned to play football as a central defender at SC Weitmar 45 in southwest Bochum . In 1994 he moved to VfL Bochum , all of whose youth teams he went through.
In the 2004/05 season he played for the Bochum amateur team in the Oberliga Westfalen and narrowly missed promotion to the Regionalliga Nord due to a defeat in the last game. His first appearance in the Bundesliga was in the game against VfL Wolfsburg that same season .
Before the start of the 2005/06 season , he moved to the newly promoted 1. FC Cologne . Matip's contract with 1. FC Köln was extended in June 2009 until the end of the 2010/11 season.
On February 1, 2010 he switched to Karlsruher SC on loan with a purchase option . On August 31, 2010, shortly before the end of the summer transfer period, Matip moved to the then second division club FC Ingolstadt 04 .
At the FCI , Matip developed into a regular player and captain. In the 2014/15 season he led the team to promotion to the Bundesliga under coach Ralph Hasenhüttl . After relegation in the 2015/16 season, FC Ingolstadt rose again to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2016/17 season . After the club was in danger of relegation in the 2018/19 season , Matip was no longer used under the new coach Jens Keller . At the winter training camp, he was removed from the squad and transferred to the second team. Matip then came to six appearances in the fourth-class Bavarian regional league , in which he scored two goals. At the beginning of April 2019, the new coach Tomas Oral , who had already coached the club between 2011 and 2013, brought him back to the professional squad. Matip was not used under Oral until the end of the season. In the relegation, FC Ingolstadt 04 was relegated to the 3rd division against SV Wehen Wiesbaden . The defender then left the Schanzer after nine years. In October 2019, Matip ended his active career.
National team
Matip had 14 appearances in the German U-20 national team , in which he scored the decisive goal to 3-2 in the round of 16 against China in the 2005 Junior World Cup in the Netherlands . In addition, Matip played for the U-21 national team at the U-21 European Championship 2006 in Portugal , where the team did not reach the final round with two defeats and one victory.
On June 2, 2013, Matip made his international debut for the selection of Cameroon against the Ukrainian national football team . Two more games for Cameroon followed in March 2016 as part of the qualification for the Africa Cup.
After the active career
In October 2019, Matip started a trainee program in the management of his last employer, FC Ingolstadt, with a focus on marketing and sales . He is also aiming for a bachelor's degree in sports and business management .
