Thomas Zechel (born January 25, 1965 in West Berlin ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

In 1983 Zechel joined the professional squad together with Manfred Pomp , Thomas Romeikat and Frank Glaß from Bayer 04 Leverkusen's own youth department . The then junior national player was able to book ten league appearances in his first season. He stayed in Leverkusen until 1988, never made his big breakthrough and was mostly a supplementary player. In his last season at Bayer Leverkusen he was hardly ever used. Zechel then moved to Hannover 96 for one season , followed by another season at FC Schalke 04 and SV Waldhof Mannheim .

But even at these stations, the attacker Zechel was not really happy and went to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Saarbrücken . Zechel stayed with Saarland for three years before ending his career as a professional footballer.
