Ute Schwager , b. Wetzig (born April 11, 1971 in Halle an der Saale ) is a former German diver . She jumped in 10 m high diving and with Anke Piper in 10 m synchronized diving. Between 1989 and 2000 she won a medal in seven consecutive European championships .
Schwager won her first medal, still starting for the GDR , at the 1989 European Championships in Bonn , where she was European Champion in the individual tower. It was the start of a series of medal wins at European Championships. A bronze medal followed in Athens in 1991 , silver in Sheffield in 1993 , before becoming European champion again in Vienna in 1995 . In 1997 in Seville , 10 m synchronized jumping was added as a new discipline, and Schwager and her synchronous partner Piper won the gold medal straight away. In 1999 in Istanbul the duo achieved silver. In 2000 in Helsinki brother-in-law won silver in singles and gold again with Piper in synchronized jumping.
Schwager took part in three individual Olympic Games from the tower. In 1992 in Barcelona she finished 14th in qualification, in 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney she was twelfth in the final.
Schwager started for SV Halle until 1992 . In the same year she began training as a social security clerk in Leipzig and subsequently started for the company sports club AOK Leipzig . After the end of her active career after the Olympic Games in 2000, Schwager acted as a judge at national level for several years, but eventually withdrew from diving. In 2003, she jumped off the 10-meter tower at a benefit event and broke her wrist in the process. At a handball game at SC Markranstädt , she met Stefan Schwager, who was committed to the club, and the couple married in 2009. Ute Schwager has a son from a previous relationship.
