Helga Lindner (born May 5, 1951 in Chemnitz ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR .

Career

Lindner's international career began at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where she missed Olympic victory over the 200 meter butterfly by just a tenth of a second and had to leave the Dutch woman to Ada Kok . In the final of the 100 meter butterfly decision, she finally came eighth.

At the European Swimming Championships in Barcelona in 1970 , she was able to win her only two international titles when she was European champion over 200 meters butterfly and with the 4 × 100 meter relay of the GDR. She also won the silver medal over the 100 meter butterfly.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , Lindner competed again over the 200-meter butterfly route, but could not repeat the silver medal in Mexico City and ultimately came in sixth.

Trivia

Helga Lindner is the cousin of the swimmer Renate Vogel , who became world champion in the 100 meters and 200 meters chest in 1973 .
