Dorothea Brandt (born March 5, 1984 in Bremervörde ) is a German swimmer . It starts in the freestyle , butterfly and chest disciplines , especially on the sprint courses (50 m and 100 m distances).

Dorothea Brandt has won a total of 25 medals at international championships and 56 medals at German championships since 2001 , and has been German champion 28 times.

She took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens / Greece and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil .

In 2009 she won her first international individual medal at the European Short Course Championships in Istanbul / Turkey (bronze over 50 m freestyle with a German record ). Also in 2009 she won the silver medal in the 50 m freestyle at the Universiade in Belgrade / Serbia and in 2010 she was European short course champion in the 50 m chest in Eindhoven / Netherlands . In 2014 she won the bronze medal in the 50 m freestyle at the World Short Course Championships in Doha / Qatar .

Dorothea Brandt is the German record holder for the 50 m chest (50 m track), 50 m butterfly (50 m track) and 50 m freestyle (25 m track). With the national team she holds the German record over 4 × 50 m freestyle (25 m track), with the relay of SG Hamburg the German record over 4 × 50 m freestyle (50 m track).

Dorothea Brandt was the athletes spokesperson for swimmers in the German Swimming Association from 2010 to 2015 and the athletes spokesperson for the swimmers in the Berlin Swimming Association from 2007 to 2012 .

Dorothea Brandt has been a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr since August 2012 and is stationed at the Bundeswehr sports school in Warendorf .

Career

Dorothea Brandt started swimming at TSV Eiche Warstade, now SC Hemmoor, at the age of 13. In September 2000 she moved to the Olympic base in Hamburg to train with Dirk Lange . In September 2003 she moved to Berlin and trained at SG Neukölln Berlin in Norbert Warnatzsch's training group , before moving to Gerd Eßer, Steffen Zesner and Lasse Frank's group in September 2009 . In October 2012 she moved again to the federal base in Essen. There she is currently being trained by Nicole Endruschat and Mark Warnecke .
