Areas

swim

Due to its popularity, the "swimming" section has the highest number of members in the association's sports sector. At the moment 75 swimming clubs are represented in the BSV. Every year the Berlin Swimming Association organizes the Berlin Championships and Berlin Class Championships. Berlin swimmers also played an important role in the national and international context from the start. The first Olympic swimming medals for Berlin were won by Max Schöne and Herbert von Petersdorff , who won gold in the 200 m team swim in Paris in 1900. In 2008 Britta Steffen joined this list with her two victories at the Beijing Games .

The swimming area has almost 300 referees, including 16 referees who belong to the BSV's national swimming team. The German Swimming Association is represented in Berlin with 11 referees (as of 2013).

Water polo

The most successful club in the water polo division, “ Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 ”, has won 66 national and international titles so far (as of 2013). With “ SG Neukölln ” and “ SC Wedding ”, two other Berlin clubs are firmly established in the Bundesliga. This sport is practiced in a total of 13 clubs of the BSV, partly at the Bundesliga or league level, partly in regional classes and even district leagues. As with swimming, there are many funding opportunities open to water polo: in the federal base, in the state performance center and in a sports-oriented high school. For some time now, water polo has also opened up to women. The Berlin clubs were open to this development from the very beginning.

Synchronized swimming

Synchronized swimming, formerly known as round swimming, has developed from art or round swimming to its present form since the end of the 19th century. One of the first competitions took place in Berlin in 1891. Back then the sport was only practiced by men. From 1907 women were also involved in the competitions and gradually displaced men from this discipline.

Diving

Eight Berlin clubs are dedicated to diving, the Berlin TSC is the best known and most successful of them. Training takes place in the swimming and diving hall in the Europa Sportpark .
