Dominik Meichtry (born November 18, 1984 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss swimmer . His specialty is 200-meter freestyle swimming.
At the European Swimming Championships in 2006 Meichtry reached 14th place over 100 meters, 11th place over 200 meters and 10th place with the relay. At the Swimming World Championships in 2007 he was 13th over 100 meters and 11th over 200 meters and with the relay.
Meichtry took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where he achieved the fastest time of all participants in the run-up to his specialty. He improved the Swiss record by 1.38 seconds and was even faster than the US superstar Michael Phelps . In the end he finished 6th in this category.
Dominik Meichtry made it as the starting swimmer of the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay on August 10, 2008 in Beijing in 48.96 as the first Swiss under 49 seconds.
Meichtry has been studying and training at the University of California, Berkeley in California since 2005 . He is married to the American swimmer Jessica Hardy .
