The swimming club Uster Wallisellen (short: SCUW) is a Swiss swimming club from Uster in the canton of Zurich . He is a member of the Swiss Swimming Association.
history
1941-1971
The Uster swimming club was founded on November 25, 1941 by the first president, Max Stocker, and 6 other lifeguards. The aim was to promote Swiss swimming. During the first 30 years of its existence the club was forced to be a "summer club" due to the lack of infrastructure. Training took place in the 20-meter short village pool and in the Uster seaside resort. Both pools were unheated, not as is common nowadays. During this time the number of members grew to 20-30 swimmers. The organization of the long-distance Swiss championship in 1955 in Greifensee was the first highlight in the club's history. With Max Gnehm the first time ever, an SCU swimmer took part in a Swiss championship. In the 1960s, Peter Föhn grew up in the club. After moving to the Limmat Swimming Club, he was the first, albeit a former Ustermer, to take part in the European Championships in Barcelona. In 1965, Philippe Walter, who is still president today, joined the swimming club.
1972-1985
After a long wait, the newly built Buchholz indoor swimming pool in Uster opened its doors in 1972. The main feature was the 25 m swimming pool with 4 lanes. This ended the era of the "summer club" and the cold training sessions in Greifensee were over. Shortly after the opening, Peter Föhn returned to the Uster swimming club as a trainer. From then on, he led the 4 weekly training units of 2 hours in the indoor pools in Uster and Bauma . For the SCU, the one track that was available to him was a real luxury. And this despite the fact that the members, no matter whether young or old, elite or beginners, sprinters or long-distance swimmers, all trained together. With the help of the Uster swimming school founded by Peter Föhn, the club then gained more members.
In 1996 the Swiss Swimming Association appointed the SCUW to be a national swimming performance center and training center for young talent. Athletes of the association took part in the Olympic Games , World and European Championships as well as in Universiades. The currently best known active players are: Jill Benne, Timothy Schlatter, Sara Staudinger, Simona Staudinger, Svenja Stoffel, Seraina Sturzenegger, Sasha Touretski, Maria Ugolkova, Annick van Westendorp, Matteo Bodmer, Antonio Djakovic, Lucas Manetsch and Christoph Meier.
