The Offenbach Weather Park is a theme park and open-air museum located in the Buchhügel recreational area in the Offenbach am Main area .

description

The weather park was inaugurated on July 15, 2005 as a joint project of the city of Offenbach, the planning association for the Frankfurt / Rhine-Main conurbation and the German Weather Service . It is located on the former site of the city gardening and urban growing garden of self-operation of the city of Offenbach.

The cost was around 480,000 euros, with 200,000 euros from the EU. In 2006 around 20,000 visitors were registered, in 2007 there were around 26,000. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free. The various forms of weather are presented and explained on an area of around 20,000 m². A gravel path runs through the park that connects the individual stations. Footbridges lead to the exhibits with graphic and text explanations.

The latest exhibit is an arched climbing frame with climbing nets that explains the phenomenon of jet stream . The German Weather Service installed the first fully automatic weather station with twelve sensors on the Offenbach site , the data of which is distributed worldwide under the WMO station code 10641 and also uses the weather park as an object for its international guests to see.

At the end of 2006, a 12.3 meter high steel observation tower was opened. An angled metal staircase with 47 steps leads over two platforms to the 9.4-meter-high viewing platform , which is oriented to the west-northwest and is provided with a prefabricated rectangular monitoring frame, on the inside of which the terms visibility and air cloudiness are explained. Because of its location on the Bieberer Berg , the building, which is also known as the sight tower , allows a good view of the Frankfurt skyline and , if the visibility is good, also of the Taunus with the Großer Feldberg , just 28 kilometers away. The tower is part of the Rhein-Main regional park .
